Flooring Installations

Hardwood flooring is extremely durable, long lasting, and, if needed in future decades, can be fully restored to its original “new” splendor. Improvements in technology over the years have increased the durability and quality of hardwoods so that they will last for generations. From small to large flooring installation projects, we pride ourselves on offering top quality workmanship at a fair price.

Laminate floors are a hybrid floor covering consisting of a particleboard wood base topped by an image layer and a transparent wear layer. Laminate floors are a popular type of floor covering for homes’ living areas, kitchens, dining areas, bedrooms, hallways, and other areas that are not subject to excessive moisture.

The laminate floor base consists of pressed chipped wood particles. The top has the appearance of real wood due to the accurate image layer, essentially a well-rendered photograph of wood encased in a clear, durable wear layer.

Aggregated wood particles are subjected to high pressure to form sheets. These sheets have a photorealistic image of wood or stone added to the top, and this image is covered with a wear layer. The wear layer, a durable, thin, clear plastic sheet, is the linchpin between the delicate lower layers and exterior elements such as moisture, UV rays, and scratching.

An engineered wood floor is constructed of layers of both hardwood and plywood, where solid hardwood is a solid piece of wood with no layers. Engineered wood floors are about 20 percent more than unfinished solid boards, but you recoup that cost and then some on installation, staining, and sealing. Figure $3 to $14 per square foot. Most boards come with a factory finish that’ll outlast one applied in your home on solid wood, and they’ll be ready for footsteps the day you put them down. Engineered boards are also problem-solvers, allowing you to use them where solid strips often can’t go, like in basements or directly over concrete slabs.

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Refinishing hardwood floors is like giving your floor a reset. The topmost layer of a hardwood plank is the finish. This finish is a defensive barrier that protects the actual wood from damage. When you refinish a wood floor, you are completely removing your floor’s finish and putting down a new layer of finish. During the sanding process, damage like minor scratches and dents can be removed as well.

Depending on a floor’s thickness, a floor can be sanded around 4-6 times in its entire life. Hardwood floors can be refinished every 7-10 years, making the 4-6 refinishes more than enough.
